Strive to survive

Training

Tigerdo trains every Monday and Friday evening from 6:15pm to 7:30 pm (Juniors) and 7.30pm to 8.45pm (Seniors). Training is in the school hall at the Newbridge Heights Public School in Lewins Crescent, Chipping Norton. We have excellent facilities including training mats, crash mats , off street parking and in-hall heating. We have many black belt instructors - both male and female.

Training begins with a series of warmup and stretching exercises and then proceeds through repetition training, groundwork (newaza) and free training (randori). During this time junior students are taught basic skills and disciplines to give them confidence and enjoyment in the sport.

Senior students are taught more advanced techniques such as kata - which are required for black belt gradings.

Parents are encouraged to attend training to watch the progress of their children and to be reassured of the discipline and quality training the students are receiving.

Students from Approx 6 years old are catered for - our goal being to teach young ones basic skills in a fun environment. This ensures the children enjoy their time on the mat and hopefully continue on in Judo for many years.

Following are a few tips for improving your judo and general well being

  • Prioritise activities - efficiency in energy
  • Eat regularly - watch what you eat - have a variety of foods and have fibre in your diet
  • Have a balance between intake of food and physical energy
  • If you must drink alcohol, do so in moderation
  • Self Exercise - develop a personal exercise program - outside of regular training - that you are capable of maintaining.
  • Plan a regular program and stick to it
  • Don't exercise in the heat of the day
  • Go for a walk
  • Use a planner or diary
  • Get proper rest and sleep
  • Drink plenty of water and limit intake of soft drinks and caffeine
  • Relaxation is important - set time aside to deep breathe, meditate or read
  • Self esteem is a goal to achieve - be positive about it
  • Plan improvements and be pleased with yourself when you achieve them
  • Don't let the negatives of others deter you - rise above them
  • Tell yourself every day that you are a worthwhile person
  • Do good deeds and have good thoughts for others even if they don't
